NORTHLIGHT SCHOOL – APPOINTMENT OF BOARD OF GOVERNORS
1. A Board of Governors has been appointed to oversee and guide the development of NorthLight School. The Board members will serve a two-year term and will bring to the School their collective wealth of experience and expertise from the people, private and public sectors.
2. Ms Euleen Goh, Chairman of the Board of International Enterprise Singapore, has been appointed the Chairman of the NorthLight School Board of Governors. Ms Goh's extensive management experience in the private sector makes her an excellent choice to be the Chairman of the Board. She has also expressed a keen interest in helping students in NorthLight School.
3. The other 11 Board members are:
1. Mr Sam Tan Chin Siong, Member of Parliament, Tanjong Pagar GRC, and Chief Executive Officer, Chinese Development Assistance Council
2. Mdm Rashidah Ab Rasip, Chief Executive Officer, Mendaki
3. Mr S Vivakanandan, Chief Executive Officer, SINDA
4. Mr Gerry De Silva, President, Eurasian Association
5. Mr Ron Sim, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, OSIM International Ltd
6. Mr Andrew Kwan, Director, Globamatrix Holdings Pte. Ltd.
7. Mr Liak Teng Lit, Chief Executive Officer, Alexandra Hospital
8. Mr Ong Ye Kung, Chief Executive, Workforce Development Agency
9. Dr Ricky Tam, Principal, Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College Central
10. Mr Chee Hong Tat, Director, Planning Division, Ministry of Education
11. Mrs Chua Yen Ching, Principal, NLS (Secretary)
BACKGROUND
4. In March 2006, the Ministry of Education established NorthLight School to better cater to students who can benefit from a more customised and vocational curriculum. NorthLight School will commence operation in January 2007.
5. The new school will build on the current Vocational Training Centre programme to develop new curriculum and programmes to better motivate these students, build up their basic academic foundation and equip them with the essential skills to take on challenges in the workplace. NorthLight School will do this while providing these students with an enhanced school environment and greater attention to better cater to their social and emotional needs.
