51 Principals to be Appointed in 2006

1.         The Ministry of Education (MOE) will be appointing 51 Principals at the 8th Appointment Ceremony for Principals to be held on 29 Dec 05.   They comprise 22 newly-appointed principals and 29 serving principals who will take up appointments in other schools (please refer to Annex A for the details).

2.         Principals are key to shaping and strengthening the traditions and ethos of the schools.  They lead and inspire teachers, and work with parents and the community to prepare our young for the future.   As the front-line contact between MOE and the public and parents, Principals play an important role in furthering their understanding of school programmes and the education system.   The process of systematically appointing and rotating Principals not only enables schools to benefit from the infusion of fresh perspectives, but also gives Education Officers the opportunity to take on different challenges as part of their career development.

3.         For the newly appointed Principals, the appointment is a major milestone in their professional career as they will be taking on stewardship of a school and the responsibility for preparing our young for the future.   For the serving Principals who are assuming new appointments, it is an affirmation of MOE’s confidence and trust in their ability to lead a school and take Singapore forward in our educational mission.

4.         The 8th Appointment Ceremony for Principals is organised by MOE to recognise the important role our Principals play in education.

5.        Minister for Education, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, will be the Guest-of-Honour at the Ceremony.   Ms Seah Jiak Choo, Director-General of Education, will present the Certificates of Appointment to all 51 Principals.
