RESULTS OF THE 2004 SINGAPORE-CAMBRIDGE GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION (NORMAL LEVEL) EXAMINATION

1.      The Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Normal Level Examination is conducted jointly by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate and the Ministry of Education.

2.      19,816 students in the Secondary 4 Normal Course sat the 2004 Singapore-Cambridge GCE Normal Level Examination in September/October this year.  Of these, 12,620 students were from the Normal (Academic) Course and 7,196 students were from the Normal (Technical) Course. 

3.      A certificate is awarded to a candidate who obtains a Grade 5 or better in at least one subject. 12,556 (99.5%) students from the Normal (Academic) Course and 7,091 (98.5%) students from the Normal (Technical) Course will be awarded certificates in the 2004 examination.

4.      Students in the Normal (Academic) Course who obtain an aggregate not exceeding 10 points in their 3 best subjects and a Grade 5 or better in English Language (Syllabus A) will be promoted to the Secondary 5 Normal Course in 2005.  9,791 students (77.5%) are eligible for promotion. Details of students and schools that performed well in the Normal Level examinations are available at Annex A.

5.      This year, 2,400 Normal (Academic) students sat for Mother Tongue Language and/or Mathematics papers in the GCE O Level Examination as part of MOE’s continual efforts to increase flexibility in the education system to better cater to students’ different needs, abilities and aspirations. These students are also eligible to proceed to Secondary 5 Normal Course if they obtain an aggregate not exceeding 10 points in their 3 best subjects and a Grade 5 or better in English Language (Syllabus A) using their combined GCE N Level and school O Level preliminary examination results.

6.      All Normal (Technical) course students who have completed their secondary education in 2004 can apply to further their studies at the Institute of Technical Education.

7.      School candidates have been issued with their results slips by their respective schools on 17 December 2004.  Private candidates will be informed of their results by post. Private candidates may also access their results through the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board internet website at     
‘http://www.seab.gov.sg/e-Services/e-Services.htm’ from 2.30 pm on 17 December 2004.
