English Entrance Proficiency Test

The English Entrance Proficiency Test is applicable for candidates applying to teach English medium subjects.

The test comprises 2 parts:

Exemption Criteria

(as of December 2011)

Candidates who fulfill any of the criteria below are exempted from the English EPT.

  1. Honours degree / Pass with merit / Pass degree graduates / Final year undergraduates with English Language or English Literature as the major Subject or
  2. Applicants who scored at least a Grade B3 in General Paper (English) / Grade B in H1 General Paper / Grade B in H2 Knowledge and Inquiry in the GCE ‘A’ Level Examination or
  3. Applicants who scored at least a Grade B3 in English Language (EL1) in the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination or
  4. Applicants who scored at least a Grade B3 in English Paper 121, 1120 or 1119 at SPM or
  5. Applicants who scored at least a Grade 5 in English in the International Baccalaureate Examination or
  6. Applicants who scored at least an overall cap of 3.5 in English Language in the NUS High School Diploma.

Details on the EPT tests and registration dates can be found at the Regional Language Centre’s Entrance Proficiency Test page. You are strongly encouraged to register early as there are limited places per session.

The cost of sitting for the written and oral tests is S$110.00 nett. Each component test (written or oral) costs S$55.00 nett. The registration fees are non-refundable. No refund of payment will be given to candidates who have registered but did not sit for or who withdrew from the test.

After your payment has been made, you will receive an official receipt. Applicants will be scheduled to sit for the EPT on the next earliest available test date. Notification of test dates, time and venue will be sent to applicants 1 to 2 weeks prior to the test.
